Three Effective Brochure Design Tips

Have you ever considered that a booklet can be one of the most influential of all your marketing materials?

It is a simple piece of paper but the first impact that your pamphlet makes is important. If it’s shabby and subfusc your prospect is left with the same feeling. This will slow your business growth.

Having a brochure professionally designed and printed is a key to winning in a packed marketplace. Taking the time to make sure that your leaflet delivers all the key information in a way that is easily figured is something that only a professional can do.

If you are just starting out in business you may be tempted to do your pamphlet yourself. When I first started in business I did everything myself – not a good choice. That is why it took me 12 years before I was even relatively prosperous. Heed my warning – go professional from day one on your marketing materials. They are an investment and not an expense. Professionally created materials will deliver you customers and the cash flow to follow – the reason why you are in business.

A pamphlet has to use eye-catching design. It has to be succinct in terms of the content and last but not the least, it must be successful in enticing people to make that call of action.

Here are three key design rules to follow when producing a booklet. Use them and you will see your results flow.

1. The cover:

The cover is your sales representative. Brochures are quite passive creatures and you are not often able to ‘walk’ people through your brochure. So you need to arouse people to read further. The cover is the beginning point so must be tantalizing and sharing the KEY values of WHY someone should read further. It should answer the WIFM question – What’s in it for me.

A great design company will show you at least three to four cover designs for your leaflet. Take Apart these designs to see which energizes you the most. Ask your friends their impression. Does the cover answer the question WIFM? If it doesn’t energize and answer the WIFM question, then skip to another design that works or get it redesigned. Taking the time here to get it right will pay bounties later.

2. The Content:

Once they are past the cover then the content has to become the salesperson. So once again, the pressure is on to be good. Do not opt for cheap inept content writers or ask the designer to write the content or worst still do it yourself. Instead make sure that a professional copywriter is doing the work. If your design company does not have a copywriter then employ one yourself.

Check Out that all the fundamental questions that a prospective customer will have about your product are answered in a way that gets them to call you for more information. Do not go into ‘overkill mode’ and deluge them with too much information at this point in time. Remember the brochure’s job is to excite and get people to call you.

3. The call for action:

If your likely customer has read the pamphlet then you have done a good job. All you need to do now is give them a compelling reason to contact you NOW.

Having things like a free call 0800 or’00 number clearly shown (in big letters) can make a huge difference. Having an email address is a clear bonus. Make sure these two are distinctly placed in large clear type.

Even give your customers a special coupon on the pamphlet or reference code can help. But above all, make sure that you add a clear call to action. One way to do this is to readdress the KEY value of your service to your prospect in a way that will get them to take action. Remember value is everything. People only buy something that is of value to THEM.

4. The piece that got forgotten:

I did this on purpose and only said there were three points. Well the last point is the one that can get missed. It is the ‘dummy’ one. Have you checked that you have these on your leaflet:

Phone number | Fax number | Email address | Web address | Country of operation | City / area of operation | Company name | And have you proof read for typo and grammar errors?

One way to do this is to hold a dinner party for a group of friends or family members and ask them what they thought of your service and how you could improve.
8) Think about the kind of brand that you would like to develop. Brainstorm some names and logo ideas and think about the kind of business that you would like to be seen as by the public.

9) Start Up Financing – It is extremely useful if you understand precisely how much you will require in the way of start up funding so you should carefully write down all of your anticipated starting costs.

10) Prepare a Business plan – After you have given these other nine factors some thought, you can start to compile a business plan outlining start up costs, administration and marketing methods and goals and targets among other points. Cautiously anticipate your expected revenue and expenses for the first two years of your business and then you can determine how profitable your new business is likely to be and when you can reach breakeven point.

Take Your Company Public Cheap! Less Than $15,000

OK, you’re ready to take your company to the next level and your CFO and legal counsel have advised you to go public to raise capital as well as to retain some of those prize employees with stock options and to bait that new sales executive with a signing bonus made up of stock options. You’ve looked into everything from pink sheets to reverse mergers to OTCBB to IPO and you have come to the conclusion you’re going to need to take on investors so that you can afford to follow through with your plan. If you’re lacking the funds to dive right in and start creating your public structure, here is a way that just about any business can afford to go public.

First, get a real business plan. Your business plan needs to sizzle and reel in the investor and clearly paint a picture of your vision to the investor and their advisors. Next, you’ll want to raise an initial round of cash quickly so that you can afford to take your company public without hindering your current company structure with additional ancillary costs. You’re going to need something fast and affective; you should consider having a professionally authored private placement memorandum put together for your company.

Build into the PPM verbiage that you are raising an initial round of capital that will be used to take your company public. When savvy investors see that they are investing in a real, viable pre-IPO or pre-OTCBB formation you will see investors climbing out of the woodwork to give you cash if your business concept is sound.

Next you hire the consultants (usually the same firm that wrote your PPM) to start the process of taking you public. How to Make a Link Wheel around Your Webpage

A link wheel is a method of link building that is used to help improve a webpage’s rankings in the search engines. It is composed of a set of pages that all link to each other and to the page that you want ranked in a certain way. When used correctly, this backlink building strategy can result in increased traffic to the targeted page due to the higher ranking in the search engines.

When you think of a link wheel, try to picture an old-fashioned wooden wheel with spokes. At the center of the wheel is the article or webpage that you want to move up in the search engine results. At the outside end of each spoke is another article or page that you control. Each of these outside articles links to the center article or page. They also link to the next article on the outside of the circle. In this way, you will connect the dots with links to draw a wheel around your main page.

You can draw a diagram to represent the wheel if it helps you understand which articles link where. The main article should be placed in the center of your page, with six spokes radiating out from it. At the end of each spoke, write the name of the article you will be targeting in your link wheel. Now connect each of the outside articles to the one next to it by drawing a line. To make the picture clearer, make the spokes into arrows pointing toward the center and the outside lines into arrows that move all the way around the circle. These arrows show which articles link to what.

Next, you need to know what pages to put the links on. You can use pages on a number of different sites to make your wheel. Any service that allows you to publish a webpage or article containing at least two links will work. Some examples include Squidoo, Hubpages, Blogger and Ezine Articles. Just pick six of these types of sites to use to build your link wheel.

These articles do not need to be unique. They do not even need to be very good, although they shouldn’t be total crap. You can use one article to build your wheel. Just rewrite it a little bit each time so they are not exactly the same. The only page that needs to be completely different is the one at the center of the wheel.

The most important thing you need to make sure you do when building your wheel is to use the keyword phrase you want to target as the anchor text for your links. In other words, if you want your central webpage to rank well for “weight loss secrets, ” then “weight loss secrets” should be the anchor text you use for the links.

The link wheel described above is really just a start. You can use more than six articles, or make multiple wheels for a single webpage. You can even make more wheels around the articles the used on the outside of your original wheel, so that you have a wheel inside of a wheel. But whatever you do, do it slowly so you don’t get penalized by the search engines for getting too many backlinks too quickly.

Databases And Architecture

When you are on the web, you usually do a whole bunch of things. Some of these include submitting forms, doing searches and clicking on links. You may not realize it but all of these activities involve use of resources that are usually contained in a web server. Even a simple retrieving of a home page requires that the web browser that you are using request it from a web browser.

Generally, these types of requests where a web browser requests for a resource and the web server responds with it is called a two-tier architecture. This is a simple request-response action since there is no sophisticated storage software involved. However, there comes a time when complicated operations that involve dynamic data will be undertaken. In such cases, a separate database to handle these requests will be used.

When a web browser requests a resource and the server response is generated from a database, such an architecture is called a three-tier architecture. Whenever access database requests are made, the web browser must first communicate with the server which in turn, communicates with the database management system that retrieves the requested data. The database management system is used to manage all the data that is created, modified, queried or deleted by users.

Whenever you access database information, you will need to have your web server process your requests that are implemented using scripts. This organization allows access database requests from thousands of users to be done simultaneously. For efficiency, many websites implement the web server and the database server on separate machines. In more advanced and high-end applications the load is further distributed by use of many machines.

The web today allows the use of the HTTP protocol to access database information. HTTP is conceptually simple. A request made in HTTP receives a response from the web server. The response is usually a HTML document, an image or a program output that is sent back to the web browser. When you access database servers, you will usually be either requesting from entry information that is cataloged or you will be making changes to the entries themselves. Despite their seemingly complex nature, database management systems offer users application interfaces to do that. It is usually not necessary to make internal configurations to the database server. In most cases, this will be done right on the web browser. So when you access database information the next time you are on the web, you may likely be doing that via a number of machines. Quite amazing, is it not?
